Excel raises an form of error message when attampts are made to open an already open file on a network. The message includes the file name and the name of the person who is currently working on it- "File ,<filename> is being modified by <username>". If the file is opened using VBA, this "reserved file" message does not appear and the file is opened as read-only. I can easily deal with the read-only aspect of the file opening but would like to give the user the name of the person who first opened the file. The "reserved file" message cannot be trapped using the "On Error ..." technique. How could I trap the "reserved file" message in order to extract the username?
