Excel scatter plot of 50k values to line of 30 values, graphical picking

Purpose: We currently get test data in the form of descrete data points. This can be a string of 50k xy values. Representative lines of 30 or 40 points can be constructed from taking values off a scatter plot of the test data. So: Given a scatter plot (could be upwards of 50k points): 1. Put cursor on line 2. Hold down left mouse click (Maybe highlight value selected) 3. Drag mouse from right to left selecting scatter values until desired values is selected(Maybe highlighting the values as they change) 4. Let up mouse button 5. Store value (x,y) in side-by-side cells 6. Do this multiple times, stepping down the spreadsheet rows as the mouse selects values from the line. Any ideas how to do this? This doesn't have to be done in excel, but excel is the program most of us use for this application. Currently we put the cursor on the line, wait for Excel to tell us the xy values, and type the values into a cell. It's very time consuming. Thanks. Alma
